Technical meteorologist's term for mixed snow, sleet, and rain.
We got 1-2" of snow overnight, churned into slush and splattering around, with residue slumping off the cars and generally ugly. Now raining, to make the mess degenerate still further. Everything winter-related in the economy gone to hell -- even winter logging, because the ground turns to mud when it should be frozen.
Emergency teams fished another snowmobiler out of a lake over the weekend, guy now in the hospital with severe hypothermia. My inner grump* would say to let Darwin have his way, except for the pollution questions involved...
Bright spot of the morning -- a swarm of chickadees offering advice and running commentary while I cleared slush off my car.
*Always listen to your inner grump.

Date: 2007-01-08 01:58 pm (UTC)It all counts as income for the rescue crews, and it's a change from little old ladies with difficulty breathing, which appears to be this winter's two-for-one special item. The snowmobilers who go into the lakes at least aren't usually as badly-racked-up as the ones who run head-on into trees. The classic injury from that one is a double femur fracture plus a concussion. (There's a reason the local ambulance squad refers to northbound cars pulling snowmobile trailers as "trauma on the hoof.")

*That's 10K _without_ counting citations.
