Technical meteorologist's term for mixed snow, sleet, and rain.
We got 1-2" of snow overnight, churned into slush and splattering around, with residue slumping off the cars and generally ugly. Now raining, to make the mess degenerate still further. Everything winter-related in the economy gone to hell -- even winter logging, because the ground turns to mud when it should be frozen.
Emergency teams fished another snowmobiler out of a lake over the weekend, guy now in the hospital with severe hypothermia. My inner grump* would say to let Darwin have his way, except for the pollution questions involved...
Bright spot of the morning -- a swarm of chickadees offering advice and running commentary while I cleared slush off my car.

Date: 2007-01-08 09:17 pm (UTC)More seriously, I think rain in Durham is probably good for Younger Son. He's trapped in his apartment grinding out 10,000 words* of academic prose over the course of three days, for his "Specialty Exam II" -- nice weather would just get in the way.
*That's 10K _without_ counting citations.
