Okay, what is a "Christian Cafe"?

I mean, I understand Kosher and Halal and even Seventh-Day Adventist vegetarian as a restaurant basis, but I'm not aware of any generic Christian dietary restrictions.  Except no-booze for some and "long pig", for most . . .

(Probably just means "Jesus Rock" on the sound system.)

Well, here in the South US, "Christian" doesn't just mean Jesus Rock and Anne Coulter books. It also means "your kind ain't welcome in here" to those of us that aren't crazy-far-conservative.

Really, sometimes I expect to see Christian drinking fountains and signs that say "Democrats use the back door."

But you're pretty far north, so YMMV.

Well, my "south" goes far enough back for separate drinking fountains and toilets and you-can't-eat-here, so your expectations may bear fruit . . .

Just as long as it's truly random.

(I want to see the expression when someone gets selections from the Song of Songs . . .)

Realistically? A place that doesn't want me or my friends as customers.

Probably Wife would be unwelcome, as well. Being sort of Jewish and all.

In an ideal world, it would mean paying fair wages and looking after one's staff, being generous towards one's customers, being tolerant and ethical...

... but a more likely translation is 'warning: evangelists.'

At least, that's what applies to my local 'Christian' riding school. I did not return.

I fear your analysis is right, although I don't intend to test it.

Just seemed weird, being the first such title I've encountered. While this area _is_ majority Christian by a long shot, most people don't shove it in your face. Not even on my churchy architectural projects.

England is still large Christian - culturally Christian, definitely, and the rural areas of West Oxfordshire don't have a large Jeweish/Muslim/Sikh/whatever population, so I did not *expect* to find 'a Christian business.' Particularly as 'Christian' around here mainly means Anglican, not Southern Baptist.

The irony is that I felt there was a goodly dose of dishonesty about the business...

If someone advertises their moral values, I expect them to have a higher than average standard.

I'm afraid that when the pastor of a hard-shell Baptist church sent me a hefty tax-deduction receipt for donation of services, I had similar feelings. I'd billed him for all the architectural work . . .

(Don't know your British tax laws, but charitable contributions are tax-deductible in the USA. Including donations in kind, like professional services.)

Perhaps it would be like one of the Christian bookstores that used to be located in the larger shopping mall here in town. There were signs reminding patrons that if they wanted someone to pray with, they could ask any of the sales staff. They weren't intrusive at all.

Playing Devil's advocate (so to speak), it might be a cafe run by someone whose last name is Christian. Or whose first name is Christian.

Or who really liked Clark Gable in Mutiny on the Bounty.

Well, the sign actually says "Lighthouse Christian Cafe" so we'd have to posit some Pratchett-style naming . . .

Whatever it is - it sounds very scary! Run away!
