Being a functional monoglot, I just assume that "Editions Mnémos (24 avril 2008)" means that this book is actually available in print.

Which I find of at least nominal interest, as I haven't been paid the publication advance for it...

And shall we have another chorus of "There's a Bimbo on the cover of the book"?  Guns, specifically .45 Colt M1911 and variants, don't work in the Summer Country...

Likewise for:

Who is that broad???  Gray would be Fiona, but she'd never be caught dead in that costume.

Actually, I like the cover on the first one. Whether or not it's accurate, it's still a pretty good image.

I hope you're able to track down what's happening on the contract/money side of things.

It's a good cover, just inspires the "There's a death ray on the cover of the book" echoes.

As for the contract and money, Nice Agent Lady is already on it.

When a similar situation happened with me, we ended up getting a larger advance out of the publisher than we would have otherwise, since they weren't exactly in a position to haggle. Fingers crossed for a similarly happy ending for you!

I recall that one gun did work, at least once.

I have no blessed idea what that second cover is supposed to represent. Perhaps an unfortunate result of exposure to the SCA during elk mating season?

Well, the bit where Jo shoots Sean with Maureen's pistol (.38 S&W Chief's Special, _not_ .45 auto...) was magic, and Sean didn't think it would work. And that's in Summer Country, not Winter Oak.

Picky, picky, picky. These authors, think they know everything...

I like your reasoning on the second one.

You would also think that they might put the middle initial up beside the first name, instead of giving the impression that your last name is "A.HETLEY"...

We've wondered about that. The "trade paperback" French edition of Summer Country did that, whereas the "mass market" version I have exposed above gives my name the normal (read "American") way. May be difference in "house" standards, as the mass market edition is a sub-rights sale to a different publisher.

The Seigneur L'Hiver cover reminds me of Modesty Blaise. (I know she carried a .45 on occasion.)

As for Le Royaume de l'ete, I suppose it might be Fiona wearing some sort of weird direction-finding headset? Certainly being forced to wear something like that would explain her less-than-sunny disposition.

Like I told Jim Hines above, the Seigneur L'Hiver art will probably sell books. I'm just not sure who or what it's supposed to represent. Not that covers have to have any relation to contents...

Anyway, I _think_ that could be Dierdre outside the Pendragon headquarters, where firearms _do_ work. Doesn't explain the shadowy dragon, though.

Wife thinks the clothing and general attitude are Jo, and the Colt is just artistic license.

The dingbat in the headgear, on the other hand, is just a dingbat. I think Bill may have nailed it.
