Saw an estimate of 14.5" of snow for our location.  I think that level of precision in the results exceeds the accuracy of the measurement...

I think the actual prediction algorithms predict whole centimeters of snowfall. So half an inch is about right for the predictive accuracy, given 2.54 cm per inch.

Ah, so they're probably just looking at their rain gauge, and seeing where the snow tops out inside the graduated cylinder.
