Raining continues

Air temperature 42 F, wind SE about 8 mph, overcast and dank. Conditions expected to last all day. Perfect accompaniment for my mood.

Signs and portents

Ice-out on Moosehead Lake yesterday. Still some coves locked in, but you could take a boat out and chase fish.

Birding revision

Begins to look more possible that the raptor nest on my walk route is merlins rather than sharpshins. They are about the same size and coloration, and I have been assuming that the less-rare bird is more likely. But we have word from a Serious Birder that a pair of merlins had nested in an area less than a mile away in recent years.

Eternal question

Again I wonder, can I call it a boycott if I wouldn't have done it anyway?
