Sunrise

We can haz sunshine?  (Or whatever the LOLcat phrasing would be...)

Of course, the clear sky necessary for sunrise also bestows black ice on the sunrise roads and sidewalks.  Win some, lose some.

When I did my pre-locking-up turn around the yard last night, I scared something out of one of the spruce trees by the back fence.  Avian, shadow against Neighbor's Xmas lights looked about crow size or a little smaller, but it flapped faster than a crow.  Wings clattered, so it wasn't an owl.

Thing is, four hours after sunset, most birds wouldn't be awake enough to scare out of a roost.

UFO.

Just fended off a business-line call claiming to be Aflac, gently informing the representative that as an underemployed one-man office, we don't have the spare change for such adornments . . .

Why is it that when I decide I want a peanut-butter and jelly sandwich for lunch, I always find about a teaspoon of peanut butter left in the jar?  Have to get out the rubber scraper to salvage the remnants, then battle with the "safety seal" on a new jar.  Worst of both worlds.

Probably should have PBJ sandwiches more often.  Then I might encounter a half-full jar on occasion.

Clouds building in from the southwest, as we approach sunset and another (alleged) cosmic display.

And, as I asked Wife a few minutes ago, "It's 2:50 PM.  Do you know where your sun is?"

Some gaps floated in amongst the clouds, so we got to see Moon, Jupiter, and Venus.  Not necessarily all at the same time, although that did occur once or twice in passing, and not in the most spectacular array, which I believe was supposed to be yesterday.

But we accept small favors, if the alternative is none at all.

Just went out into the night with malice aforethought and shook the spruce tree.  The whatsit exploded out again, with a clatter of wings.  And with the added distinctive whistle of a mourning dove's wings, which I did not hear last night.

Actually, I think there were two of them.

Also, now we have a clear sky and cold stars.  After moon and planets have set.
