Tuesday no-roadkill report
Jul. 1st, 2008 01:16 pmNo roadkill, either fresh or . . . otherwise, on my weekday bike route. Although the evidence has been disturbed -- road grader working on the shoulders of the road, two miles of prime habitat out in the bog. So much for my data on the progressive decay of porcupine carcases.
Warm, still somewhat sticky, so I didn't really pound away on my bike run. Bog roses blooming, and blue corn-flowers. Other stuff that I couldn't identify or have already noted in excess.

Surprise of the mildly pleasant sort
Jul. 1st, 2008 02:32 pmOkay, as previously mentioned, I did a bit of driving yesterday. Refilled the gas tank this afternoon, and calculated the mileage based on that and the turnpike fill-up in mid-flight.
Over 30 MPG for the total run, down and back, including some city-driving around and about the campus on errands before the kids blew the joint. This is supposed to be a small SUV, with automatic transmission and AWD, and we stuffed the car to the gills for the return run.
I feel virtuous.
