Some light rain overnight, not not-raining when I hiked for the morning newspaper.  Crows cawing their usual morning chorus -- Wife asks "Where's West Nile when you really need it?"

Happy Columbus Day to our US audience, commemorating the founding of Columbus, Ohio in 1825.  I'd make rude comments about the Buckeyes, but that would be redundant...

Also happy Thanksgiving Day to you nice folks in Canada.

We have not yet had a killing frost.  For our part of Maine, pushing on into mid-October, this is getting beyond unusual.  And the side-yard maple is only starting to turn.  Yeah, it's a "sycamore maple", not native to the area, and thus out of sync with the seasons.  But still...

We keep putting off various kinds of outdoor work because the buzzy pointy insects are still active.  Don't want to brush up against an aster and find it inhabited by yellow jackets.
