Not technically raining

Although we did have rain earlier. The low roof areas of the house seem to be drying out, although the roads have not yet followed suit. I may get in a local bike ride yet. (Don't know if I trust the weather gods enough to head out on one of my Sunday routes. Most of them involve getting an hour's ride away from shelter...)

Tidied up those SIGNATURES chapters yesterday, no great trauma involved. I assume that Wife will present me with another chunk of book today before she leaves for work. Don't know if she's reached the point where I kill off *CHARACTER* yet...

Intruded myself into local cat politics this morning. Nikita was holding a debate with an unknown long-furred calico. I went out and spoke to them. Calico slinked off -- I'm sure that humans are _not_ supposed to involve themselves in feline disputes.

Hey, it's an election year. Guess they wanted in on the action.

Sunday roadkill report

One raccoon who has raided his last garbage can, a couple of chipmunks. We'll hope the latter had enough time on earth to add their bit of cute, offsetting a serious lack of that material. Also a couple of UFOs -- unidentified flattened objects. Size could have been squirrel or even rat, in which case they wouldn't count. Or muskrat, which would. I can usually make a good guess as to the former form of roadkill, but those? Could have been naked mole rats. (No fur remaining.)

Actual sunshine has occurred (along with some clouds of questionable intent) so I cranked the bicycle across to the airport and out to the lake and back. This route never takes me further than ten miles from home and shelter, with most of it less than five. Ox-eye daisies blooming in the roadside ditches, orange hawkweed joining the yellow, lupines nearing full bloom. Shame I had to concentrate on the asphalt, but some sections of that route need serious repair and repaving.
