Yes, another earth-shattering news flash. I'll temper it by saying that we did have a brief interlude of non-rain yesterday in which I managed to mow the swamp. No bike ride, though -- I didn't see any patch of clouds that I'd trust for an hour. Wife keeps checking the answering machine out at the nature center, hoping that a flock of Cub Scouts has called and canceled their scheduled outing for the day. So far, no joy.
Got the first third of SIGNATURES back from her last night, complete with a gazillion Post-It tabs of quibbles over commas. She's just doing her job -- my idiosyncratic prose sometimes causes her to be uncertain whether a certain word (take "blocks" as an example) is intended to be a noun or a verb until she swallows the rest of the sentence. Sometimes not even then. English remains a slippery means of communication. I can't catch these things because I know damn well what I meant.
I continue to hold both great pity and great respect for people who learn English as a second language.
