Climactic upheaval

Temperature in the mid 40s F this morning, sun shining, snow vanishing from lawns and driveways. If this trend continues, I may sneak out for a bike ride. Or not.

In an unrelated development, I note that the US and our Iraqi lackeys never learned the most basic rules of the coup -- when you catch the dread despot, you _shoot_ the bastard*. None of this namby-pamby trial bullshit....

*Hanging or other immediate and reliable disposal methods remain viable alternatives. Mounting the head on a spike outside your gate is optional.

Indecision

Okay, the Nice Agent Lady has looked over my couple-of-chapters-plus-synopsis and says it looks like a great idea _but_ it may be too close to Jim Butcher's Dresden series. So, since I maintain a great well of ignorance on the Dresden books, I have spent ACTUAL MONEY on a copy of the first of the series.

(Spent ACTUAL MONEY because the entire consolidated electronic card catalog of the libraries of the great State of Maine does not show a single copy of the aforementioned series. Which may be why I haven't read any of them...)

Do I keep writing on my fat, balding, burnt-out forensic mage, or don't I? Hell, that can be a grand metaphysical question rather than just deciding the fate of SIGNATURES. If the market doesn't want my natural stuff, should I try to morph into something else, or just shrug and walk away? Seasonal depression suggests the latter.

Yugg.

On a brighter note, the B. Daltons where I bought that book had sold out of the DRAGON'S EYE copies that I signed.

More discomforting thoughts from the publishing world

Just received a fan email (YAY FANS!) which generally offered encouragement and ego-boo. But. She had to _order_ DRAGON'S EYE even though she works in a Barnes & Noble. The store had mass-market WINTER OAK on prominent display, but no copies of DRAGON'S EYE.

They can't buy your book if they can't buy your book....

Reports of sightings of DE in the wild would be appreciated.
