More signs of spring

The back steps reach an intermediate stage of ground-thaw, where the front edge has thawed and the back hasn't, so the steps rock like a teeter-totter. Now they have settled into summer configuration.

River open at the hospital narrows, ice-out down to the sea.

Definite blossoms on the silver maple a few houses down.

Neighbor has set out clothes-line tree and has hung drying laundry on same. Cat supervising.

And no rain. This, in itself, is noteworthy. Bike ride this morning.

In other news, got an invitation to a free lunch and investment talk in today's mail -- addressed to my mother. She died several years back, and never lived at this address....

40 minutes, 7 miles approx.

That sort of mail is bad -- my mother still gets mail for my father's mother, who died twenty years ago, and never lived at their present address, either. I tried to get Readers' Digest and RIce University to do something about it -- but neither has bothered. A brief suggestion to anyone who supports these organizations, or any others guilty of the practice -- boycott -- it's only symbolic, but if enough people would bother, it might at least hurt them a bit -- sorry, I feel in a hurtful mood this afternoon.

We have lovely sunshine today, but it is still raw and cold outside.

Oh, the _real_ joker was the bit of forwarded mail I got that was addressed to my father. Twenty-five years in the grave, and the local Democrats wanted to invite him to a fund-raiser....

But then, we _did_ live in Cook County for a while.

Mis-mail

I am forever getting mail for a second cousin of mine. I have no clue where he lives now and in fact I'm not sure I ever met him in person.

However, he did live just down the street from me a few years back. And in fact, he lived in an apartment my family and I had lived in a few years previous. I guess the change-of-address got screwed up.
