(I know it's supposed to be sort of a northern-hemisphere obligation, but some of us live in our own little worlds and may not partake of that communion....)

Well, for starters, I think some people who read these notes live south of the equator. That puts a, shall we say, different slant on the subject.

Then there's the question of different universes. Maine doesn't seem to exist in the same world as the District of Columbia....
