Out for the Sunday bike ride (yes, another bicycle post), and was peddling through beautiful downtown Bradley when I came across a drive shaft lying on the shoulder. Looked like it came from a pickup truck. Bet that hurt.

Later, bombing down Copland Hill at about 40 mph, I encountered a deer in the middle of the road. And a car coming the other way. Luckily, all three of us were sensible. I slowed down, the car slowed down, and the deer looked both ways before sauntering back into the puckerbrush.

Sunny, just enough wind to keep the bugs under control, and saw hummingbirds at the nature center when I stopped off for a break and chat with my wife. And a squadron of about a dozen dragonflies, doing their bit to keep the bugs down. No chipmunks, though.

You might like to Friend [livejournal.com profile] jmkelly. He's a bicyclist and a Callahanian. I enjoy reading your bicycle posts. It encourages me to get out and go riding. If you can deal with moose then I should be able to deal with rednecks in pickup and semi trucks.

Encourages? Or shames? (If that old fart can go out riding, what's _your_ problem?)

And you can assume the rednecks in pickup and semi trucks are here, as well. Think of them as background noise, barely worth comment. Sort of like the cosmic radiation from the Big Bang, everywhere if not uniform.

Encourages. I don't have problems with riding. I've got scheduling problems. It's either too hot to ride, too wet, or too buggy. Plus Wen wants to go out and ride with me and she's too big for the bicycle seat and I haven't got a trailer to tow her in. Also Goose just got a new bicycle for her birthday and wants to ride with me but she can't stay out as long as I do so I've got to cut my ride short to take her home.

Ah, yes, the joys of parenthood. I offer the hope, based on our experience, that they _do_ grow up and leave. Then you wander around the house and wonder where the echoes came from. And all that spare time. Spare money, even.
