The wearin' o' the orange

Happy ethnic-stereotype day to ye!

(Still don't know why the NCAA thinks "Fighting Irish" is okay but "Fighting Illini" is offensive.)

Father Andrew Greeley calls the Notre Dame team "the fighting black baptists."

Have a happy St. Patrick's day Jim.

The Illini stopped fighting scores of years before the Irish did.

The Irish haven't stopped yet. I don't think that makes the title *less* offensive . . .

(And, as far as I can tell from a quick pass at the history, there never was a tribe called "Illini", but rather a confederacy of tribes with other names in the Illinois area.)

Centuries before the Irish? :-)

And it doesn't. I wonder though if this whole mess of "Everyone is Irish on St Patrick's Day!" might have something to do with it being less offensive. If everyone is Irish (at least one day of the year) then no one can be offended because then everyone would have to be offended?
