Further winter maintenance

Cleaned out the stove ashes (into metal bucket, now residing outside on the driveway), took down stovepipe, cleaned same (out on driveway -- Wife takes a dim view of powdered creosote on the living room rug), and reassembled whole meghilla.  Once again, creosote buildup just past the shiny-coating stage.

Temperature around 30 F, so no fingers were frozen in any way in the making of this film.

We may get rain tomorrow.  Boo hiss boo!

Seems like that is the third time this winter that you've done that... Is the stove your main source in the house?

Yeah, have to clean out the ashes/coals every few weeks. Wood heat is messy, and winter lasts longer than a few weeks up here . . .

Our main source of heat is a converted coal boiler and convection hot water system, using cast-iron "radiators." It now burns oil, like most of the home heating systems up here. Piped natural gas wasn't available until a few years ago.
