Overnight low -10 F at the airport.  Other areas as low as -20, which pales, I know, in comparison with the wilds of northern Minnesota or Idaho.

And the wind hasn't picked up yet.  Woodstove refueled, newspaper fetched, we can return to hibernation.

Hope you're enjoying your heat wave, there! Here in Fargo, N.D., it's currently -29.2 F.

Local forecaster promised us a +30 F for Sunday. Why don't I believe him?

My father was born in South Dakota, and used to warn us about farmers frozen to death between house and barn. That's why Maine farms usually have a direct indoor connection from house to shed to barn . . .

Oh, yeah! Even my father has stories to tell, having been a rural mail carrier most of his life, making deliveries on approx. 100 miles of gravel roads. It is not friendly country in the snow and cold.

Except when you're out sledding or ice fishing.

Various points back in the hills reported lower than -30 F. This is one advantage of living near tidewater . . .

I have been whining about the cold, but ....

Stay warm and enjoy your hibernation.
