Friday roadkill report

One mourning dove tumbled on the road shoulder, one flat red-bellied snake out on the pavement. Rather a meager assortment of corpses for the route, I'm afraid.
Not-roadkill, a short-tailed shrew that scuttled across the highway about four feet in front of me, up near the auto junkyard. I'm pretty sure he/she made it all the way across, because she/he chose a fair-sized gap in traffic. Except for one bike . . .
Sunshine, 60s F, I decided to tell the wind to screw itself and got out for a stress-relief ride. A lot of leaves down already -- we are claiming 50-70% "color" at this point, but the swamp maples are bare. If you want a Maine Foliage Tour, stay near the coast. And another week should push that past prime.
