and let's face it, the weather isn't co-operating either. Hurricanes (in the US), floods in Europe, droughts in southern Europe.

It's bad news after bad news on the media these days - we need some Good News to inspire confidence in the world.

Only some. They didn't control the initial bank/mortgage meltdown, and that's what started it. I do think they're encouraging it, trying to spin this as an October Surprise on Obama -- but they're the ones who got nailed by it.

I'd say it's about 50% hype. Or was, before the press started runs on banks by spreading rumors of insolvency.
