Yanno, if someone would just force Darth Cheney to bring his Halliburton Fortress of Evil back to the US, why, I suspect most all of the missing funds woudl magically reappear.

Elements of it go back as far as the Nixon administration, though most of it is a result of changes beginning in the second Reagan administration and continuing through all the administrations (Bush, Clinton, Bush) since then.

It's a self correcting problem, since eventually you stop getting any older. Then you don't remember anything.

No kidding. I always figure that any mess requiring graphs, spreadsheets, and timelines in order for anyone to make even minimal sense of what happened is something that required the participation of divers hands in both its initial creation and its ongoing maintenance.

(But if the voters this year decide to hang it all on the heads of the Republicans, while I suspect they're mistaken I'm certainly not going to weep hot tears over it.)
