Odd. Which version of Firefox? (I'm currently at Windows version 3.0.2, and it gives me both options for the "Post an Entry" page.)

Version 2.0.0.17 for Mac OSX.

They just put up a new release, of which one of the bullet points is this:

9. The RTE has been temporarily disabled for users running Firefox 2.0.0.17 because of an incompatible change in that version of Firefox. We hope to be able to re-enable it in the future.

So I guess it was a known problem, and this is a temporary workaround.

The Rich Text Editor has been disabled for users of Firefox 2.0.0.17, due to some compatibility issues. Developers hope to be able to re-enable the Rich Text Editor in Firefox 2.0.0.17 in the future. In the meantime, if you are using Firefox 2.0.0.17 to access LiveJournal, you can post entries using the HTML Editor, upgrade to Firefox 3, use another browser to access LiveJournal, or use a downloadable client to post entries in your journal.

That explains it. Can you upgrade to Firefox 3 on your Mac?

I've been holding off on that because of anecdotal reports of ver. 3 causing system crashes on Macs. BetNoir specifically, and I consider her reliable . . .

Firefox 3 has been upgraded a couple of times now. I'm currently using version 3.0.2. Of course I'm not using a Mac, so I can't speak to the Mac problems directly.
