(Squeaky Dalek voice)

I need some way to send a death-ray through the phone system.  Between telemarketers and political phone banks, someone's gonna die!

(But I won't be anywhere near.  I have an alibi, I do.)

That is #63 for 101 Uses for Daleks! Fortunately my number is unpublished, and has been for a long time. Cuts down on a lot of such calls. Unfortunately, not wrong numbers when I'm taking a nap.

How about rigging up a switch that just Rick-rolls them? As soon as you figure out it's someone wasting your time, just hit a button that starts playing "Never gonna give you up..."

Am unfamiliar with term "Rick-roll" -- as usual, totally out-of-it.

But would that give the same long-term satisfaction as killing the bastards? (Or frying the computerized call system, whichever comes first.)

Rick-rolling is a spoof technique that involves attaching Rick Astley music to the front part of a video. So someone initially sees the video they think they're watching, and then it switches to "Never gonna give you up..."

It's hard to send anything over phone lines that's really damaging. The digital nature of modern phone lines limits how loud a signal can be, as the digital electronics just naturally clip the signal strength. So you're stuck with either trying to send malicious code or trying to induce the caller to stab himself in the eye with a fork.

Never encountered that music or video. Should I count my blessings?
