Another bit with the US-centric bias of the Olympic media -- I get really bored the sixth or twentieth time they show a botched baton-pass on the relay race . . .

You're in the US, of course the media is showing a US-centric bias. The coverage here in the UK is being "Team GB-centric".

But they prefer to show a US flop rather than spending that air-time on some Other athlete's dazzling display of skill.

but I did see the Cuba/US women's volleyball yesterday on the big screen in Trafalgar Square. The crowd were cheering for the Cubans - who seemed to be losing?

I think it's a short-sighted chicken and the egg bias loop -- viewers are only interested in athletes from their own country, so we will only show them athletes from their own country, so they are only informed about and therefore interested in ...
