Gathering clouds.  We're having a military funeral across the river.

Pause and think about it, please.  That's our army, our soldiers, no matter what we may think about the orders that sent them into battle.

Agreed. Right now, my whole family is waiting to see if my brother Eric is going back to Iraq right now, and I have to make my peace with the very real likelihood that he may not return.

It's a real risk, but I've seen numbers suggesting about 40,000 people who've died or been seriously injured (among our troops, that is). There have been over a million servicefolks who've been there. 40,000/1,000,000 is 4/100, which means there's a 96% chance that any given service member comes back physically mostly-whole. As awful as things are for the 4% (and as awful as some of the stuff gets for some of the other 96%) those are some decent odds.

That's actually what makes me angriest. Every single one of those deaths has been for NOTHING -- and there's not a thing we can do to change that, now or ever. And the PTB want to keep throwing away more lives after them. Way to support the troops, guys.

Just don't make the mistake of thinking there are any easy ways out...
