Well, the promised wind and rain materialized. The sound effects noted above represent one of the costs of the older house, with drafts stirring the curtains and the sash rattling in their frames. I'm more alarmed at the occasional _thump_, as we don't _know_ of anything loose outside....

Oh, and I omitted the gurgle of the basement drain.

Got any nut trees or cone bearing trees? We were hearing lots of thumps in the early morning a few weeks ago. Turns out to be squirrels dropping acorns on the roof of the trailer.

But probably acorns hitting a metal roof are louder than nuts hitting a shingled roof.

No nut trees. No trees at all, really, except the rowan on the sun-porch side, and the thumps came from the other side of the house. Checked this morning and no obvious damage, no vagrant trash barrels, nada. Things that go bump in the night.
