Maybe not - but it does belong in the same time zone as the rest of New England. Portland is actually west of Provincetown, though admittedly only by four minutes of longitude or so.
That's only partially a jest, by the way. A level of . . . tension . . . exists between Portland and the remainder of the state, usually resolved to the benefit of Portland and the detriment of less populous areas.
A fair argument regarding Portland. OTOH, the same argument can be made about places like Rumford and Livermore Falls, which are definitely not Boston suburbs.
Well, Rumford exists in its own time zone -- somewhere in the 1950s, I believe. Eisenhower is still president. Haven't been to Livermore Falls in ages, so I can't speak on that.
