I'm sure there's something in the fine print about calling in the National Guard to clear my driveway.  I mean, they have these big green front-end loaders and graders  and dump trucks...

Oh, wait, all that heavy equipment got sent to Iraq.

I don't think the snowblower is going to love me.  About 6" of heavy wet snow with a crust on top.

Soonest started, soonest done.  See ya!

If you can bring that driveway down here to PA, I can take care of that for you! =)

Besides the obvious logistical problem, we have cars parked at the end of the driveway. If you shove those on into the back yard, in order to move the snow, it kinda defeats our purpose here...

You could always get one of these (http://www.snowdragonmelters.com/)!

You'd need a loader of some sort - a skid-steer would work. Then again, something like that, with a nice, heated enclosed cab and maybe a snowblower attachment... and you're right back where you started, except out a lot more money and a little bit more comfortable while you clear snow.

Out of our budget, I'm afraid. We just fall back on the attitude expressed by a co-worker long ago: "The good Lord put that snow there. He can take it away when He's through with it."

Hmmm... I wonder if I could charge extra and add "Natural, Environmentally Friendly Snow Removal" as a service? =)

We didn't have a crust to deal with, but I ren the snowblower's fuel tank dry before I got everything cleared. Twice, the snowblower almost got buried under avalanches when the snow mountains partially collapsed. They're over seven feet high at the top of the driveway now.

A bit of weird behavior you may appreciate -- the neighbor just spent about 20 minutes of snowblower time carving a canyon through the 5' snowbank beside his driveway. I think he needs that to get his Harley out...

Heh. :)
I'm not ready to get my bike out yet ... not until the driveway and the roads are free of both ice and sand, and maybe until the worst of the frost-heaves on 11A have gone down.

Wife and I took on a couple of Michigan winters with my old Honda, back in college days. Can't say I'd recommend the experience to others, but we were young then, and invincible...

I think I used up my invincibility quota in March 1999.

Here in Maryland, the state defense force actually does organize volunteers with 4WD vehicles to go around and pick up nurses, doctors, and other emergency services folks who have to get to work but can't get their cars out of the driveway.
