Somebody on my reading list asked, once upon a time, why people refer to the major Democratic candidates as "Hillary" and "Obama", as possibly dismissive of Ms. Clinton.

At least in Maine, that's the way their printed signs read...

And all over all of her stickers, which were available in abundance at the caucus.

Same here. Signs, buttons, and other campaign provender all say "Hillary!"

I think it places her into that small group of distinguished people known to most of the world by their first name. Like Michaelangelo and Raphael and Madonna and Prince.

I noticed that. I wonder if it's partly to differentiate her from Bill, and to make her seem warmer and more approachable.

Skipping back to another part of your reply, I'm not sure the world is yet ready for a warm and approachable Hillary.

During the last City Council election season in Minneapolis, the Green Party produced the most fliers. Trees were cut down to make those fliers, and then they became unrecycled (mostly) trash.

I still have an unused bumper sticker from the first Earth Day -- "The Pollution You Breathe May Be Your Own."

I wrote a long comment on a friend's flocked post about why I so dislike that Senator Clinton has chosen to campaign that way. I should repost it in my LJ.

I'd like to see that. I suspect we're having similar reactions.
