I wonder how many people would vote against Clinton simply because she is a woman.  I wonder how many people would vote against Obama simply because he is (sorta) Black.

It's a non-zero number, in each case, no matter how much one might wish it were otherwise.  Worth thinking about for the die-hard Democrats out there -- this isn't an "Anyone but Bush" election.  Bush isn't running.  And "Anyone but Bush" didn't work, even when he was..

If we look for a clue at the current goings-on in the Anglican Communion, it would appear that for the sort of people who are going to let their prejudices direct their principles, sex and gender bias trump racial bias -- the breakaway parishes have preferred to place themselves under the authority of hyperconservative South American or African bishops rather than be part of the Episcopal Church USA, which has one openly gay bishop and whose current presiding bishop is a woman.

Of course, I'm aware that people exist out there who would vote for Clinton _because_ she is a woman, or Obama _because_ he's "black." Don't know if the opposites net to zero.
