The dreaded Black Ice

Wife and I just returned from an evening (well, night*) stroll, as the rain has ceased and stars are appearing in the black velvet sky.  Or some such literary trope or kenning.  Anyway, the sidewalks had a distinct greasy feel underfoot in places, and I don't think we were indulging in Slug Skiing.  Temperature may be in the upper 30s F, but the ground has had a chance to soak up cold and store it.

I've reached the point, of sort of, maybe, getting a little nostalgic when I see snow in a movie or TV show. However, when I saw someone walking through slush on a Law and Order rerun last night, I thought, "No, I sure don't miss that."

Not I though. I slid over the black ice in the Mini-cedes and was going slow enough because I was expecting something like that so I didn't end up in the ditch.
