A number of houses still display pumpkins, carved and otherwise, from Halloween.  Pumpkins are food.  Therefore, the squirrels gnaw at them.  Anyway, just went out for a walk around the neighborhood and discovered one of the culprits in the act.  The tree-rat then jumped in through the mouth of the jack-o-lantern, bushy tail vanishing between the teeth, and then popped up through the lid to keep a beady rodent-eye on me until I had passed beyond safe distance...

Pumpkins are food, yes. I generally bake my jack-o-lanterns the day after Halloween, puree them, and freeze the puree for pumpkin pies at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Good stuff, Maynard.

Most of the pumpkins still out have ceased to look like food -- mold and frostbite leading to terminal collapse. Always amazes us how folks leave them out until I'd want a shovel...

That really needed pictures. :)

In related news, we have just discovered we have red squirrels in back of our new property.

I don't carry a camera with me. This may change if that sort of thing keeps happening.

Yup, I know, I don't routinely carry a camera with me either except for my cell phone, and there's several times I've regretted that.
