Okay, so I'm a shallow person

 When I get forty or fifty pages into a book and still don't know what the story is, I'm inclined to walk away.  I know I should be intrigued by the mystery, but...

That's right up there with "I don't care what happens to these people."  Which the author is also skirting.

i think that falls more under the heading of "don't waste my time" than being a shallow person :/
