Said Red Sox have a magic number of two to make the playoffs, seven to win the pennant, and are only half a game away from having the best record in all of Major League Baseball. Which, of course, does nothing to prevent Red Sox Nation from indulging in weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth, having been conditioned by decades of history to expect said team to fold Real Soon Now.
