I'm not a fan of his fantasy stories, but that's too young.

Younger than me...

(I'm afraid I gave up on his "Wheel of Time" at about book 3. Hadn't actually gotten anywhere.)

All the more reason to be glad you're riding 1000 miles per year. While I'm a mere lad of 53, I consider you to be a contemporary. It's bad enough that I go to funerals of guys in their 70s and 80s all the time.

I suppose I ought to pass the word about this. I know one person who probably hasn't heard yet, and probably ought to.

Heck, Bill, if I make it to 58 I'll have to call it a success. My father died at 54, and my grandfathers at 39 and 47.

I know what it's like to have such a genetic history Ed. My dad punched out at 47, and my grandfathers at 57 and and 61. But I'm doing what I can to reverse the trend by staying away from mines, asbestos, and tobacco.

All that aside, it's still sad to see people dying off at such young ages.

I remind myself, on a regular basis, that I am now nine years younger than Dad's age at death...

Man, I was just reading in his website a few weeks ago about his health issues. Call me selfish, but I hope he lift good notes for that final volume. (I'm compulsive that way. Once I start in on a series, I have to finish it. I actually trudged my way through all ten volumes of HUbbard's "Mission Earth.")

Well, raise one to another author gone. (Take care of yourself, Jim. I'm running out of people to read.)

I won't bet one way or the other on the final volume. I've heard/read that he did outline resolutions to all the tangled plots. Finding another author who can make sense of it _and_ do a decent job of writing, well...

I've never been fond of the resurrected "Dune" series.
