Two squashed squirrels spreading their giblets along the pavement, one almost-intact skunk near the first precast concrete plant.

Breezy and cool this morning, clear sunshine with temperature about 60 F, but nowhere near as windy as yesterday.  Leaf by leaf autumn advances, no particular change you can put your finger on but the green fades a little each day and you wake up one frosty morning and the burning-bush out back is scarlet...

Question from the ignorant -

Are you a really fast cyclist? I don't have a point of reference - if I were riding my old ram's horn handlebar 10-speed Schwinn on flat ground, moving my legs (not coasting) but not pumping my 5' 11" self breathless, about how many miles per hour would I travel?

(Just curious - I'm not planning on holding you to this or anything :-) )

As "serious" cyclists go (1000+ miles per year) I would be considered slow. And getting slower every year -- I used to do my local rides in under an hour, average of 16 mph. The last few years, it's more like 14 mph.

That's less than half what the Tour de France cyborgs do. Even uphill...

On the other hand, I often pass "occasional" cyclists. I'd guess they average more like 10 mph.

Thanks for the clarification. (And I don't think the Tour de France guys are human. They can't be. Alas, we won't get into performance enhancement...)
