Nothing to do with the electronic voting machines.

Being an old-fashioned analog guy, I am disgusted with the digital nature of _both_ sides of this damned political system. It's all either 0 or 1 to them, black or white, them or us. He who is not with us is against us. No interest in working with the other side, no concept of "the loyal opposition."

Fuck 'em both. And the elephants and donkeys they rode in on.

I like the motto suricattus shows in her icons. "Vote meerkat. We only _look_ like weasels."

There. I feel better now.

I think the candidates who were willing to see things in shades of gray all lost in the primaries. Extreme polarization seems to be the name of the game this time.

And just exactly _where_ does extreme polarization leave the nation, when neither major-party candidate can eke out a majority of the vote?

It leaves us a nation divided, of course. I don't like that, but the only thing I can do about it is to maintain dialogue and civility with people regardless of who they're planning to vote for. We're all still going to have to live together in the same country after it's decided.

I'm not sure some of us will be allowed to live here -- or to live, period -- if Bush comes out on top[1]. There are plenty of ideologues who only need the hint of Official Approval to start enforcing Exodus 22:18.

[1] You have no idea how much trouble I had coming up with an accurate description for that situation. "Re-elected" was clearly not right, and I'm reluctant to use "elected" or any variation on "win" when I fully expect another Republican attempt to rig the outcome.

I understand that you really feel this way, but I honestly think you're overreacting. Furthermore, I think that the fact you feel this way is evidence of the extreme polarization I mentioned. Remember that a lot of people over in the Christian Coalition feel the same way you do.
