(Yes, again.  But we need it this time, with a recent deficit, and continued fire warnings.)

(Note, with some concern, the wildfires in The Land of Trembling Earth and Boundary Waters Canoe Area, both places we have enjoyed.  Hope Pogo Possum and Albert and Porky and the rest of the crew are safe.)

Wife and I snatched some decent and pre-bug weather for a hike through the bog yesterday, noting various wildflowers.  Trailing arbutus, wood anemone, bellflower, Canada mayflower, goldthread, and numerous others listed.  Some slope-foreheaded lowlife thieved the whole depository for donations set out there to support the bog boardwalk, which would involve cutting a lock and hauling a hundred pounds of metal for about a quarter mile.  Probably netted $20 cash for $2000 of damage.  People are a blight on the landscape.

So where is this bog/swamp you oft speak of anyway?

The bog lies on either side of Stillwater Ave., out by the concrete plant and the City Forest. You access the boardwalk from the City Forest parking lot and a perimeter trail that becomes my ski loop in winter.

Ah! Thanks!

Seems odd to drive somewhere to go for a walk, but I'll have to check it out sometime.

You can bike on the loop trail and the interior roads of the forest, just not on the boardwalk. Our thoughtful local government has placed a bike rack at the actual boardwalk entry, but I would recommend (see original post) a good bike lock threaded through both wheels and the frame...

Ooohhh.. nice. I'll defintally have to swing around there Thursday (my day off) and check things out. Looked at a couple websites for the bog.. it looks pretty awesome in general. Things I never knew existed.... and how long have I lived in the area (er.. only about 7 years I suppose).
