White violets

Another sign of spring, we have added white violets to the dandelions in the lawn.  Also some small purple things that seem to be a relative of mint, and probably represent Invasive Aliens which we should eradicate with Strong Poison.  Immediately.

Sunny and warm again today, already above 70 F.  Don't know if this will be _it_ for summer, or whether we will get the genuine article at some point.

Bugs are waking up.

Don't think so. I've seen those, but the ones blooming right now have multiple blooms on one spike. Also darker purple, but that could be a photo artifact.

Wife, if she recovers from the plague enough to examine the specimens, will know.

Hm. Multiple darker purple blooms on a spike could be either mountain mint or purple loosestrife. Or any number of other things, actually...

Wife says "ground ivy" aka "Gill-over-the-ground", and it is a kind of mint. Four-sided stem, etc. Don't have a Latin name for you.

Much too small for purple loosestrife, plus blooming months too early. This is part of our "lawn", and can survive mowing.

Hah. The picture I posted was ground ivy. My lawn is also being devoured by it.

I stared at that and stared at that and tried shifting the color and decided that maybe it could be, after all...

Ours are smaller, and I think I was attaching some clover to the stems, first time I looked.
