One of those useless weather fronts -- not enough rain to run the rinse cycle on the world, no sun for added melting, didn't go below freezing last night so the maple-sap pump didn't get a boost. We are supposed to clear off later, with wind and "seasonable" temperatures, which means highs in the 40s F. Maybe 50s later in the week.

Otto von Bismarck is reputed to have said that we are better off not knowing how laws and sausages are made. I think that goes for parcel shipping as well. Three of four boxes of books arrived here Friday. The fourth, shipped at the same time and logged in by FedEx in Willington, CT at the same time on March 22, departed there on a different truck and hasn't been heard from since. ("James James Morrison's mother hasn't been heard from since...") Still estimated delivery for tomorrow, but I hae me doots.

Those books are mass-market editions of SUMMER COUNTRY and WINTER OAK, incidentally. Ace is "reducing inventory" on them, and not _quite_ saying that they are going out of print. You people aren't buying enough books. Thus do we watch another author slide into oblivion.

aaarrrgh!

If the publishers could induce the distributors to distribute them to a bookstore I frequent (in the sense that a rural person can frequent a place forty miles away) I might have known they were out in mmpb. I shall correct their oversight as soon as possible.
