Crocus noses

Along the edge of the foundation, where the snow melts back first, we have little green noses poking out of the semi-frozen muck that is our lawn. In the fullness of time, they should produce flowers.

I guess we've survived another Maine winter.

Yep, that's a start. I shouldn't tell you that it's currently so warm in Dallas that the daffodil blooms have already faded, my daylilies are already knee-high, the bearded irises are starting to bloom, and a friend reported seeing the first June bugs of the season, should I?

No, you shouldn't tell me. Just as I shouldn't tell you of temperatures in the 70s, when Dallas is over 100 for the third week in a row, with 90% humidity...

Let me tell you, I wish we had that sort of humidity during summer these days. I lost half of my carnivores last summer because the humidity rarely got above 20 percent between July and October. I was trying every trick I could to amp up the humidity inside my greenhouse, but when you're having to vent heat out, the humidity inside goes with it.
