We received maybe 6" of snow overnight, sleeting when I walked for the newspaper, raining now. And about 27 F, which leads to interesting possibilities for that rain, of course. I ran the snowblower and cleared walks and steps, but did not clear off the cars -- if we get a layer of ice, it's easier to clear the cars if that is on top of a layer of snow.

And I still had the snowblower running when the city plow came back to make a second run at blocking us in, so I won _that_ skirmish. We take joy where we can find it.

Now drying out, with balaclava and mitts on the radiator and jacket hung next to it, and a hot cup of coffee in my hand.

I just looked at the satellite map, and I see that Maine is covered up in crap. If it's any consolation, we got that yesterday and right now it's pretty much gone. The streets and sidewalks are clear of frozen stuff, though it's covering the lawns. I hope it's gone soon for you too.

We got at least 8", here in Colebrook NH. With any luck, it'll bring the snowmobilers back up north for a last hurrah, which heaven knows we could use -- the whole peak Christmas-through-New-Year's period was an absolute bust this year, snow-wise, and the local folks who depend upon winter tourism are seriously hurting. (As somebody commented when the question of possible economic aid for the region came up -- and was pooh-poohed -- down below, what the north country experienced because of the lack of snowfall was the equivalent of a major crop failure.)

From looking at the weather radar, looks like you managed to miss out on the rain. Be glad. We got an inch or so of the stuff, on top of the snow. Flood watches and warnings.
