You can tell that the snow is softening out there. Both Nikita the Cat and White-toes broke through the crust when attempting to pussy-foot across the surface this morning. Nikita retreated to bare pavement and shook her paws, while White-toes just picked her way along with a certain aura of distaste.

Granted, Nikita could stand to lose a pound or two of flesh...
