Temperature about 10 F for the morning newspaper walk, with breeze. A dite nippy, in the local idiom. Could be worse -- that's close to the average low for the date. We've just been spoiled by the oddball warmth. Supposed to get warmer and maybe a mixed-precip event Sunday/Monday.

Political commentary: "Well, that didn't work. Let's try more of it!"

Posting from the laptop computer due to a puzzling glitch on the desktop. It can connect to the ISP, but can't find either mail server or internet addresses -- except for the state library catalog, for which the bookmark has a digital address rather than an alias. This computer can connect and find addresses, different phone line but same ISP.

If Elder Son feels like dropping by after work, he can get a free meal and transport home in return for diagnosis...

Sounds like a DNS failure.

Yup. That's why I threw in that symptom about the one "favorite" that has an actual address...

According to Elder Son, my ISP, bless their little three-chambered hearts, made a bunch of changes last night. This morning, his phone at work was hopping off the table.

The odd part was that my laptop would connect to the internet, but my desktop wouldn't.

same thing happens to me everytime I lose my IP lease (or whatever it is you call it....). I have to reboot computer and modem (I've got DSL) and then everything works fine again.
