Where have all the flowers gone . . .
Jul. 24th, 2025 12:55 pmI haven't seen monarch butterflies on all that expanse of milkweed available on my bike routes. I've seen two total this summer, here in town, and Elder Son reports a few. Have you people south of us been starving and poisoning them?
Hmm ...
Date: 2025-07-24 08:08 pm (UTC)Actually I've seen fewer butterflies of all kinds this year. Which is sad, because central Illinois has a lot more pollinator patches than it used to. Some of the farmers have patches of several acres -- we see them when we're out driving around. Currently they're showing common milkweed, butterfly weed, Queen Anne's lace, yellow coneflower, purple coneflower, and black-eyed Susan.
