(Note to world: Ford was nowhere near as dumb as he has been portrayed. Met him once, way back when he was running for congress for the umpteenth time, and he could indeed walk and chew gum at the same time.)

Ford was a much smarter and more perceptive man than he is normally given credit for. I think had he been elected in the normal fashion and not tainted with Nixon and Watergate, he might have had the opportunity to show himself a much better President.
