My profound thought for the day: political division.

Us versus them -- I don't see much indication on either Democrat or Republican side that we're all "us."

A binary system creates those kind of conflicts as a matter of course.

Good thing Emperor Norton I outlawed the Democrat and Republican parties way back when - imagine what it would be like now if those two had to carve the country up between them.

Favorite subject of mine to go on about (long bit on the subject and others - part one of sixteen! (http://ellyssian.livejournal.com/148180.html))

I hear ya Jim. Interestingly enough I get along just fine with friends who vote both ways. We seem to have much more in common than we have different. I do wish more people would notice that.

Unfortunately, and sadly, both major political parties seem to have far more interest in finding points of division and polarizing the electorate than they do finding common ground upon which to unite it. The great moderate center is neglected and unrepresented.
