Trrrrrommmp Trrrrrommmp Trrrrrommmp (all those legs)

Hundreds of them on the road this morning, never can remember which combination of brown and black means a harsh winter. And anyway, I saw ones that were nearly all black and others nearly all brown, with the full range in between. Guess they aren't any more accurate than the human weather prophets.

News Flash! Ace has made an offer on DRAGON'S TEETH, which will be my fourth novel sale! Frabjous Day, Calloo Callay! Only fly in the ointment, they have changed corporate policies on advance payments, now dividing them into thirds rather than halves. One third on signing, one third on acceptance, one third on publication. Corporate arrogance rides again. You don't like it, the door's right over there....

Now I have to get serious about GHOST POINT, I guess.

Congratulations on the sale, even if you do have to take Caesarian Gaulic payment.

Congrats on the sale. The 3 part payment is something we first saw in the eighties; I'm surprised that Ace wasn't doing it. Ace has only been doing reprints with us, so that continues to get paid out in the on signing, on pub way, I'd guess.

I, btw, have even seen stripless and longitudinally stripped woolybears this year... maybe it means blizzards and hotspells, blizzardss and ice storms, blizzards and mud.

Well, they want to control their cash flow, I guess. The other three sales were 50/50 signing and acceptance. Not that _my_ advances are going to break their bank.... And since the latest book will probably not see print until 2006, that leaves us with PB&J for 2005.

Yeah, I've seen some of those oddball woolly bears. Wonder if they ever make it into the gene pool?

Bantam's doing split-by-threes as well these days (I was told it's nonegotiable) but... Ace might offer a little wiggle room as to how much of the advance happens when, were a thumb skillfully applied to the appropriate pressure points?

The nice Agent Lady is working on that.

It's nice to find work for them, isn't it? 'Cause you know they just sit around eating bonbons all the time... ([livejournal.com profile] arcaedia's on vacation. I'm safe this week.) *g*
