Foundation has achieved backfill! Film at eleven!

(Now we just need to get some loam and seed on top of the fill, and pacify the deceased neighbor's heirs on the driveway damage....)

Congratulations! This has been far longer than you originally thought - is it a small enough area that you could perhaps turf over it rather than seed, thus achieving closure?

What happened to the driveway?

The excavation area is something like two yards by six yards, could be turfed but the contractor owes us loam and seed and cleanup. The driveway suffered multiple contusions and abrasions from the crawler backhoe used for excavation and backfill, and also lost a couple of feet along the edge to slumpage under the weight of those granite slabs. We _had_ an agreement with Deceased Neighbor that he didn't care about the driveway, he was going to get it repaved this fall, but then he went and died on us. Not sure how the heirs and assigns feel about the carnage.

If the contractor owes it to you, then by all means, let him get on with it. And slumpage is a wonderful word, giving a very clear picture as to what happened to the edge of the driveway, Mine's getting distinctly weedy along the edges, which leads me to wonder why grass has sufficient drive and energy to make it through tarmac, and much less when carefully nurtured and tended on the bare spots on the lawn.
