Friday late-season report
Sep. 22nd, 2023 03:49 pmRoadside flowers down to assorted sizes and hues of asters, with occasional goldenrod for punctuation. Even most of the goldenrod has gone to seed. Phragmites seed-heads browning as they ripen, another invasive alien.
Most of the trees on this route haven't started to turn -- uplands are slower than the bog.
Roadkill limited to a couple of gray squirrels. Did smell skunk in a couple of locations, but no corpses.
Temperatures warmed up into the 60s F, not much wind. No interesting metal birds over at the visitors' parking on the base, but Blackhawks were shuttling in and out. Army Guard getting their hours in. As was I. Did not die.
